Office to Field > Publish Design to a Specific Device
1. I use the ‘Trimble Business Center - WorksManager - Field devices’ workflow. Will I be able to target specific devices?
You can publish designs directly from Trimble Business Center to field devices. However, note that you will not be able to target specific devices directly from TBC. As a workaround though, you can achieve the same outcome in three steps
Publish vcl design from TBC as you do today (this goes to all devices in the project)
Login to WorksManager -> Navigate to designs -> Select design published from TBC
Use ‘Edit devices’ -> remove devices that you don’t want the design for
Note: This workaround is required only for the first version of the design. The subsequent versions go to only the specific devices marked. When you create another new design all together, you need to go through this workaround again once. We look forward to integrating this feature directly in a future TBC release.
2. Can I send a design to both machine control and data collector devices at the same time?
When you publish designs from TBC directly, it goes to all the devices in the project by default. This includes both machine control as well as data collectors. And you can use the ‘Edit devices’/ 'Edit designs' to change it anytime later.
However, when you publish designs from WorksManager user interface, you don't have an option to target both machine control and data collectors at the same time. As a workaround though, you can create two designs with the same name - one as a data collector, and another as a machine control design, and publish to any set of specific devices you want. Know that when you select a data collector design, only data collector devices show up, and when you choose a machine control design, only machine control devices show up (in the 2nd step of the ‘Create design’ workflow).
3. Sending design to specific devices - does this work with Earthworks devices?
Yes, absolutely. The designs will be visible only for Earthworks devices that the design has been published to from WorksManager.
4. Can I target the design to a group of devices or a work zone?
No, not at this point in time.
5. Today, when a device enters a project boundary, it gets auto-added to the project, and pulls in all the project designs automatically. How will this work with this feature?
When a device enters a project boundary, it will continue to get added to the project automatically. However, the device automatically pulls in only those designs that are marked ‘Publish to all devices’. For the others, in case you want to publish any other designs, you can use the ‘Edit devices’ option on the design page.
